W06: Ookpik Waltz

Ookpik WaltzAn ookpik is Inuit toy in the shape of an owl, usually made of sealskin. It was invented in the early 1960s. The Ookpik Waltz was written by Canadian fiddler Frankie Rodgers (1936-2009), very soon after the toy became a popular tourist item in the mid-1960s. Rodgers performed and recorded extensively throughout a long career, and this waltz remains one of his most widely known compositions.
