In April 1999 CoMando John Bird proposed the idea of a "Tune of the
Week". A tune would be nominated, and a discussion would take place
about the tune, problems of playing it, hints, tips, stories behind it,
great recordings of it, etc. The very first tune was "Blackberry
Blossom".
Various people have taken turns to be the "tunemeister" (the geezer
what chooses the tunes of the week): George Hunt was 2nd, I was 3rd,
John Bird took the helm again, followed by Donn Marshall. The present
Tunemeister is Jim Coon.
The concept of TOW was that it would engender disscussion. There was
never meant to be an actual repository of tunes available, because
there are usually several ways of playing one tune. However, there was
a demand for access to the tunes that were being talked about, so first
Dave Berry [1] started putting MIDI files of some of them on his web
site; then I tabbed out a few of them, and then the Co-Mando web site
came into existence, and several of the tunes were held there in
various formats. |
