Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832) based his poem Jock o’ Hazeldean on a fragment of an old balled, John of Hazelgreen. The tune can be found in the Leyden manuscript (c1698) with the title The Bony Brow, and elsewhere it has been found as The Glancing of Her Apron and In January Last.
