Music

Two tunes composed by Pipe Major John MacLellan. A quiet and shy man, McLellan (1875-1949) nevertheless composed some of the most captivating bagpipe tunes of all time. If he had simply written Lochanside his revered place in history would be assured, but his other tunes such as The Highland Brigade at Magersfontein, Heroes of Vittoria, The Bloody Fields of Flanders, The Dream Valley of Glendaruel, and the tune known to all as The Road to the Isles show a singular genius for creating exceptional music. His home town was Dunoon.
