I learned this version from my friend Pete Budd - I've still to ask him where he got it. The slurred notes (that is, the notes joined by a curved line) are to be joined together; this results in what's called anticipation (you're anticipating the next note, playing it sooner than you would expect), which features in many American fiddle tunes.
