The reel is named after a famous 18th century rapparree, or highwayman, who operated around the South Tyrone/Fermanagh area. Dickie was supposedly a dispossessed Irish landowner who avenged himself by taking back some of his own through acts of lawlessness....he was eventually apprehended...and hanged.
