Bottom of the Punch Bowl
Bottom of the Punch Bowl |
As played by Alex Brossault on
CoMando Sessions Vol. II, Disc 1, track 15
This old reel was first published in Scotland in 1743. There are some nice touches to the playing: note the hammer-on and pull-off in the eight bar of the A part and the B part.
Alex Brossault: "I learned this tune from Simon Mayor while attending one of his workshops
in Collingwood, Ontario, Canada. I rented some mics and set-up my 4-track
for a day of recording with an old work mate of mine. We spent most of the
day trying some Simon Mayor originals with mixed success. Finally I suggest
trying this reel (it's quite a bit easier than the others we were playing)
and played through it once then recorded on the second take. After recording
it I heard an old Dave Swarbrick version of the same tune, he played it
twice as fast with possibly a little less concern about tone!"
