Summertime - Chords

I think that one of the secrets to being able to play Summertime is getting the rhythm and the chords. Start by practising changing from G minor to D seventh, as that change produces the basic feel of the piece. Now just try to convey a lazy, laid back rhythm while using only these two chords. That, once you've mastered it, will provide the backing for half of the song. The rest is easy.
