The Shakin's o' the Pocky is what
Skinner called a 'solo Strathspey',
more commonly called a 'slow Strathspey' (made for listening rather than
dancing). The tune was actually a collaboration between Skinner and his
one-time teacher, the great Peter Milne (1824-1908) - rated by Skinner as
"one of the finest native musicians that Scotland ever produced". Milne
wrote many fine tunes, although there are only about 30 that we know
about. Perhaps his most well-known is John McNeill's Reel, also known as
Big John McNeill.
