The Bloody Fields of Flanders was written by Pipe Major John McLellan and the tune was used by Hamish Henderson for his famous song Freedom Come-All-Ye. The second tune was composed by Pipe Major M Ferguson. Colonel William Vernon Lumsden (1887-1966) was commanding officer of the 9th Scottish Rifles who won his third Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1917 at the Battle of Passchendael.
