Allan (or Ailean) MacDonald, 14th Chief of the MacDonald of Clanranald clan, succeeded to this position in 1686. He was wounded at the Battle of Sherriffmuir in 1715 and died at Drummond Castle the next day. This tune is a dirge in his honour.
