The Duke of Gordon's Birthday was composed by William Marshall, who had been employed by the Duke from the age of twelve, ending up in the exalted position of house steward before his retiral. Alexander Gordon (the Duke, pictured above) was also a fiddler and composed a few tunes.
Lord Lyndoch is likely named after Thomas Graham (1748-1843), 1st Baron Lynedoch, whose estate was in Perthshire. He had an impressive military career, followed by a long stint as Member of Parliament for Perthshire.
