There aren't many jigs from Shetland compared to the wealth of Shetland reels, but these two are crackers, in my opinion. Garster's Dream is supposedly about a fiddler from Fetlar called Garster who, coming home from a wedding, fell asleep and dreamed he heard fiddling. When he woke up he remembered the tune and played it when he arrived home.
Da Brig was composed by fiddler Friedamann Stickle. A German by birth, he was shipwrecked off Unst in the 1770s and settled there, marrying local women. The story goes that he observed a brigantine in full sail from his house one day, and was inspired to write this tune.
