The composer James Oswald (1710-1769) was born in Crail, Fife, and later lived in Edinburgh. At aged 31 he moved to London and published a great collection of Scottish traditional music, the "Caledonian Pocket Companion."
This melody was used by Robert Burns for his song The Border Widow's Lament.
