Composed by Scottish piper James Duncan Mackenzie while he played his pipe on Coilleag a' Phrionnsa (the Prince's Cockleshell Strand, or Prince's Beach) on Eriskay on a warm July evening. It is said that Bonnie Prince Charlie first set foot there on his way to battles and bloodshed in 1745.
