Composed by Jem Finer and Shane McGowan of The Pogues, this song started out as a bet from their producer Elvis Costello that they couldn't write a Christmas song. Originally released in 1987 with Kirsty MacColl sharing the vocals, Fairytale of New York reached No.2 in the UK charts. It later became one of the most-played Christmas singles of them all.
