Composed by James Hill (c1811-1853), born in Dundee but resident in Gateshead and Newcastle for most of his life. His compositions are mainly named after pubs or racehorses, and are celebrated to this day. The original name of The Redesdale Hornpipe was The Underhand; pub or racecourse? You decide.
