The title refers to the Simonside Hills near Rothbury, Northumberland, about 26 miles northwest of Newcastle. The composer, Jack Armstrong (1904-1978), was from a family of miners, but later had his own band, The Barnstormers. In 1949 he became official piper to the Duke of Northumberland. I have transcribed the tune from a 1949 78rpm recording.
