EMGO Burns Night 2024

In 2008 I realised that, through my classes and workshops,I was producing a lot of mandolin players, some with a desire to expand their knowledge and participation. As a result I created The Edinburgh Mandolin and Guitar Orchestra ("EMGO"), and for more than ten years I steered the ensemble as Musical Director and Conductor. It was chellenging for everyone, not least me, Through a lot of hard work we grew and performed beautiful music.

In 2018 I retired from the orchestra and, while it was a wrench for me, the brilliant Michael Graham took over and led EMGO the great heights.

This year EMGO are inviting a number of "guests" to sepnd an evening with them, so on Thursday 25th January 2024, I'm going back to see my old friends, and hopefully make some new ones as well. EMGO are happy for others to come along and take part...

BOOKING

The venue is Edinburgh Society of Musicians, 3 Belford Road, Edinburgh, EH4 3BL (if you look at Google Street View, you'll see me outside the building with an interesting pair of trousers!). There is a limit to the space, so if you're interested in coming, please send an email to EMGO chair Helen Oglesby.

MUSIC

The theme of the workshop is "Burns" and we'll be looking at three tunes which Robert Burns used to write songs to: Lord Gregory, Whistle O'er the Lave O't and Green Grow the Rashes O. The music is available to download now (use the links below), and if you would like any different form of notation, let me know.

Any further questions, just ask.
