Trumpet Hornpipe
The Trumpet Hornpipe |
This tune is often called Captain Pugwash because it was used as the
theme tune for a very popular children's television programme. The original
was slightly different; the chromatic run in played in the B part nowadays
is a more recent addition, possibly dating from the TV theme which was
played by accordionist Tom Edmundson in 1957. He in turn learned the tune
from Jinny Shand, so it's possible that the version played now had a strong
Scottish connection, but it is by no means clear.
