William Murray, 1st Earl of Mansfield (1705-1793) was born in Scone, and was a statesman, a lawyer and played a key role in the abolition of slavery. The Mansfield Estates are near Perth. This very popular march was composed by John McEwan of the 92nd Gordon Highlanders and was first published in 1886.
