The Reverend Archie Beaton was the minister of Dundonald Parish Church, Ayrshire. A champion of Gaelic culture, he died suddenly while acting as president of An Comunn Gaidhealach at the Stirling Mod in 1971. The air was written by the late John Mason, originally from Orkney, but living in Troon up to his death in 2011. He created the Scottish Fiddle Orchestra and was its musical director and conductor.
