On the 10th February 1794, Alexander, the 4th Duke of Gordon, raised the Gordon Highlanders for the French Revolutionary Wars. To commemorate this, this year's theme for the workshop was "The Gordons."
The first tune was a slow air, The Duke of Gordon's Favourite composed by Robdert Mackintosh (1745-1807) and published in his fourth collection of 1802. Next was a strathspey, The Gordon Highlanders, which I got from Kerr's Merry Melodies (1880s). Finally, I adapted a 2/4 march by James Scott Skinner, The Gay Gordons - I turned it into a reel.
