On the 15th February 1848 The Caledonian Railway opened, aiming to form links between the English rail networks and Glasgow, and eventually all over Scotland. To commemorate this, this year's theme for the workshop was "Railways."
The first tune was a 9/8 jig, The Disused Railway composed by Billy Craib. Next was a bagpipe hornpipe, The Train Journey North, by Tom Anderson (not the Shetland fiddler). Finally, we did an Irish tune called The Wheels of the Train - although it's based on and old Scottish song, The Laird o' Cockpen.
