The Back Peddling Mudguard

This set is part of the following collections:

January 26th 1878, the death of Kirkpatrick MacMillan (1812-1878), a blacksmith from Keir in Dumfries and Galloway, who is often credited for inventing the bicycle. He is said to have built a pedal-driven bike made of wood, with iron-rimmed wheels in 1839.

The Back Peddling Mudguard was composed by accordionist Mickie Ainsworth. who played in the Ian Powrie Band. The Bell was adapted by fiddler Johnny Cunningham from a strathspey called Heather Bells.
