March 27th 1603: King James VI of Scotland succeeds to the throne of England after the death of Queen Elizabeth, James's cousin. This came about when James IV married Margaret Tudor in 1503, bringing Scotland’s Stuarts into England's Tudor line of succession. James IV shortly left Edinburgh for London, promising to return every three years; in actuality he return only once, in 1617.
This tune was composed by the late fiddler Bert Murray. He wrote it for the Tappen family of Pasadena.
