There was a connection between Dunfermline Abbey and Dunfermline Palace, and the "Auld Alliance" was signed there in 1295. 34 years later Robert the Bruce was the last of seven kings buried at Dunfermline Abbey in 1329.
The earliest meetings at Dunfermline Greyhound Racecourse were in 1801, and the final race was on 14th July 1876. In 1851 it attracted a crowd of more than 20,00 people.
