The Great Storm of 1703 is regarded as the worst ever, with over 8,000 people lost, including sailors aboard the many ships that were destroyed. It affected mainly England. The origin of the title The Meeting of the Waters is not definitively known, but it's likely that it commemorates the "Muckle Spate," a huge flood in 1829 when the Findhorn and Spey rivers burst their banks and formed a new, although temporary, loch.
