This famous tune dates from the latter half of the 16th century. Although it has been attributed to King Henry VIII (as a love song for Anne Boleyn), this is rather unlikely. A broadside ballad, Ye Lady Greensleves was published in 1580, and became popular almost immediately. This setting is based upon the way Kenneth "Jethro" Burns played it.
