Up wi’ Eli Eli is old, dating from the 17th century. Brose and Butter has been popular in Scotland since the mid-18th century, although it's probably English in origin and, again, dates from the 17thC. Other names for tune include Peacock Follows the Hen, Yellow Stockings and Mad Moll. Burns collected a Scots version of the song in 1785.
