 Who's Who in Scottish Folk
H

Ian Davison Folk Group, The
The Ian Davison Folk Group were Ian and Karine Davison, John Craig, Anne Nielson and Ian Young. They were active from 1964 to 1973 and sang both Scottish and American material, strongly influenced by the style and repertoire of Pete Seeger and The Weavers.
Ian Young, John Craig and Anne Neilson were all a product of Norman Buchan's ballads club at Rutherglen Academy and Ian Davison, who later built a reputation as a fine songwriter, started his teaching career at Rutherglen in 1962. The folk clubs were booming at that time and there were also regular large concerts at venues such as the temporary Glasgow concert hall near the Kelvin Hall (after St Andrew's Halls burned down) and other venues such as Hamilton Town Hall. The group were supporting artists for Tom Paxton on two occasions playing to over 1000 people in that period and also Jesse Fuller (San Francisco Bay Blues), Robin Hall and Jimmie Macgregor, The Kenny Ball Jazzmen and The Dutch Swing College Band. The link between traditional New Orleans jazz and traditional folk music seemed quite natural in the 1960s as many folk groups included Americana in their repertoires.
The Ian Davison Folk Group made the first recording of Adam McNaughtan's Jeely Piece Song (Height Starvation Song) (Scotia Records SMD 18), recorded in Hillington, Glasgow in 1968. The B side was An Old Man cam' Courtin' Me. It sold in large numbers, particularly in Castlemilk, which at that time was Europeีs largest housing scheme and the words are known by many children in Scotland to this day.
Iain Ingram is best known for his song Annie McKelvie, covered by many people. In the early 1980s Iain was living in Dunoon, and teamed up with Alison Duncan, Iain Williams and Malcolm Currie to form Kilts 'n' Co-op Sandals. He now lives in Bearsden, still writing songs and doing a little performing. Ingram made a CD circa 2008, Words o Fiction.
Inn Folk, The The Inn Folk were originally Russ Paterson, Will Whyte and Alastair Lowden, who ran Dundee's Woodlands Folk Club, as well as the Brechin Folk Club in the late 1960s. The group had been performing since the early 1960s.
Innes, Heather is a singer who released on album that I know of, a cassette release called "A Song's for Singing" (Bluebell Music HS 008, 1991), on which she was joined by the likes of Stevie Lawrence, Sandy Stanage, Ross Kennedy, etc..
Itchy Fingers were based on the island of Arran and were Donal Boyle (fiddle, mandola, vocals), Damien Frame (Highland bagpipes, Scottish smallpipes), Iain Frame (guitar), Maggie Frame (guitar, vocals) and Simon Thorburn (bodhran, guitar, vocals). They released on album that I know about: "Island Homes" (Carwinshoch Music, 1993) which also featured Gillian Frame (whistle) - later of Back of the Moon fame -and Nicky Ash (bass). Itchy Fingers regularly played at the Ormidale Hotel in Brodick.
